Which is the best day to fly? Better yet, which day is cheaper to fly?
Booking the cheapest flight may not be as easy as one may expect.
To cut to the chase, the key to cheap flight is to travel during off-peak days. Many people travel on weekends and holidays so they don’t need to take leave from work or reschedule meetings. Flight fares are often high during such days. That’s when you shouldn’t fly. The most expensive week day to travel is on Friday. If you are planning on travelling back home from New York, USA, for the Christmas and New Year holidays this year, it is cheaper to fly starting Monday, 23rd to Christmas day.
The Kenya Airways return flight for a single adult flying economy class from JFK Airport to JKIA (direct flight) costs Ksh 123,455 on 23rd December returning on 6th January, 2020. However travelling on Christmas day and returning back to New York on 1st January costs Ksh 108,810.
The reasons for airfare variations are numerous and sometimes difficult to predict. An airline may be more costly when a country is celebrating a holiday, or its economy is ailing.
